BioFire Diagnostics, LLC. is looking for a Scientist I or II to join our growing team! The Scientist's primary responsibility is to initiate, direct and execute scientific research and/or development for BFDX through a research staff or individual studies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a team of research associates to perform laboratory research and develop new products.
  2. Design, plan and write experimental protocols and reports for research studies to develop new molecular diagnostic products.
  3. Coordinate complex laboratory testing schemes and manage timelines to maximize efficiency and meet timelines.
  4. Accurately analyze and interpret data to drive testing decisions in real-time.
  5. Maintains broad knowledge of state–of–the–art principles and theories.
  6. Work may involve the development of new instrumentation, software or processes, customer support, and skills.
  7. Write accurate and clear reports to be included in company documentation practices and procedures.
  8. Make contributions to literature and conferences, participate in patent applications, and develop research groups.
  9. Communicate regularly with direct supervisor to relay project status and data summaries, technical topics or challenges, and personnel matters.
  10. Collaborate with other scientists and personnel in various company departments to develop strategies and experiments, share resources, communicate progress and observations, problem-solve, and resolve technical issues.

Training and Education: Ph.D. in scientific discipline or equivalent (higher level scientist will have several years experience in the field); may consider exceptional candidates with a Master’s degree in Microbiology or Molecular biology and at least 5 years of relevant industry experience.

Experience: Expertise in molecular techniques, including PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, and research for medical IVD technologies. Demonstrated proficiency with performing research, mentoring, and scientific publications. 

Previous experience with the following is preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience in an FDA regulated industry
  • Experience working with manufacturing teams for regulated products
  • Foundation in microbiology and/or infectious disease diagnostics
  • Experience working on IVD products for clinical applications

Skills:

  1. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of people (Research associates, Directors, Scientists, Engineers, Project coordinators/managers) from different educational and cultural backgrounds.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to independently plan experiments, analyze data and troubleshoot problems in real-time.
  4. Ability to manage and articulate complex processes
  5. Problem-solving and propensity for identifying creative and effective solutions
  6. Proficiency in successfully building and maintaining relationships as a member of a technically diverse team
  7. Strong organization and project management skills.
  8. Experience training, managing, and mentoring others.
