Job Summary

Manage state and local income tax compliance and audit defense for the US consolidated group. Support federal income tax compliance and financial reporting.

Areas of responsibility include federal income tax and state income, franchise, and gross receipts tax compliance, audit management and support, quarterly financial reporting, tax research, process improvement leveraging tax technology, and notice management.

This individual is expected to work in a cross-functional manner with the broader finance team as business partners. Additionally, this individual will liaise with and/or manage 3rd party providers and auditors.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Review and/or Preparation of state and local income, franchise, and gross receipts tax computations:

-          Review and/or Prepare state and local income, franchise, and gross receipts tax supporting workpapers.

-          Liaise with 3rd party for preparation and review of return filings.

-          Prepare quarterly estimated / annual extension payment calculations.

Management of state and local income, franchise, and gross receipts tax audits:

-          Review information requests and liaise within tax and finance to gather support.

-          Prepare responses and manage communications and meetings with auditors.

-          Prepare amended filings as required.

-          Maintain audit workpaper files.

Preparation of federal and state quarterly provision support:

-          Prepare supporting federal and state workpapers and related journal entries leveraging ONESOURCE Tax Provision and ONESOURCE Workpapers.

-          Prepare and manage quarterly state sales apportionment calculations.

-          Prepare and manage state income tax payable proof.

-          Prepare federal and state income tax balance sheet account reconciliations.

 

Review and/or Preparation of federal taxable income computations:

-          Prepare federal taxable income supporting workpapers.

-          Liaise with 3rd party for preparation and review of return filings.

-          Review quarterly estimated / annual extension payment calculations.

Monitor federal and state legislative changes / tax research:

-          Leverage tax research software to monitor state legislative changes, to include IRC conformity and modifications to apportionment and rates.

-          Communicate periodic updates to management.

-          Perform federal and state tax research projects in support of tax planning and projects.

Process improvement leveraging tax technology:

-          Identify opportunities requiring process improvement / automation.

-          Develop new and maintain existing Alteryx workflows.

Manage state and local income tax notices:

-          Manage information requests, notice resolution, and required payments.

Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Supplemental Data

Position will report to Federal Income Tax Manager.

US consolidated group is an inbound organization (French) reporting per IFRS principles.

< 10% travel required.

 

Qualifications

Training and Education

BA or BS degree required.

Masters of Accounting / Taxation preferred, but not required.

CPA preferred, but not required.

 

Experience

Minimum time and type experience required for this position.

Minimum of 4+ years of public accounting or corporate tax experience in US multinational income tax compliance and financial reporting. State and local income tax experience is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The following skills are required:

Knowledge of US multinational federal and state income tax compliance and financial reporting, including income tax accounting methods and supporting regulations.

Ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Ability to manage / liaise with external consultants and auditors.

Knowledge of general ledger and journal entries.

Intermediate / advanced proficiency in MS Excel.

Tax research, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Project management and organizational skills.

Focus on continuous improvement, including process improvement.

May be required to lift boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
