Senior Manager, Electrical Engineering

The Systems Development Hardware Electrical Engineering function plays a key role in the development of bioMérieux instrumentation. In addition to designing the circuit boards used to control instrument subsystems, the electrical engineers drive for proper electromagnetic compatibility and safety in design based on worldwide regulatory requirements. The manager of this team can shape the work in leading the team of engineers, determining best practices, and collaborating as part of the hardware management team to meet development goals.

What You Will Do

  • Support the research and development of marketable products and technologies by organizing, assigning responsibilities, elaborating staffing plan and coordinating group activities by influencing key technical or business decisions.  
  • Be accountable for management and development of people, mentor key individuals, ensuring the integrity of the performance management process and individual development/training plans; also recommend salary evolutions. 
  • Act as an arbitrator between conflicting objectives by implementing priorities; moderate the interactions between team members with the rest of the department and with project and/or program management.  
  • Coordinate initiatives involving other departments and ensure effective communication.  
  • Contribute to and lead to the creation or modification of procedures in accordance with department needs. 
  • Coordinate, with the other technical disciplines, the integration activities of complex electro-mechanical instruments.  
  • Ensure proper resource allocation, fostering collaboration within hardware engineering and with interfacing functions, including establishing and managing the budget of the function. 
  • Be accountable for the technical output of 3rd party development contractors which includes all planning and coordination activities for the documentation, design, development and testing of electrical product components. 
  • Encourage best practices in engineering design and lead the utilization of advanced electrical engineering theories, methods and research techniques in product development design.  
  • Comply with the design control guidelines and Quality requirements within the company’s regulated ISO / FDA environment.

Role Requirements

Leadership

  • Understand business priorities to help drive instrument and PCBA development efforts on projects with multiple team members.
  • Effectively communicate & rationalize decisions/issues to their team & leadership stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a natural ability to communicate, build relationships (based on trust) and to influence peers (strong levels of command and courage).

 

Technical Expertise

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent discipline, with a minimum of 8 years of work experience designing mechatronic equipment electrical hardware and controls or robotic systems.
  • Experience with leading teams of engineers.
  • Ability to lead and direct others in a technical environment, and collaboratively work with members across multiple engineering disciplines. 
  • Ability to lead and influence a matrix organization. 
  • Strong planning and leadership skills, with proven ability to meet business objectives. 
  • Strong business acumen in addition to project management and technical skills. 
  • Experience in an ISO/ FDA regulated environment is highly desirable.
