This is a full-time exempt position within a small, dynamic, and exciting research and development team currently developing a molecular diagnostic platform with innovative technology. Responsibilities include; managing and executing scientific research and/or development strategies for bioMérieux at the interface between biochemistry and card manufacturing.  The position applies a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to investigate problems, establish procedures for production, provide biochemistry input, and design and coordinate experiments to validate designs and set specifications. Duties require familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures including PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR, use of fluorescence-based nucleic acid detection techniques, standard microbiology practices, and good manufacturing procedures. The Scientist will not normally receive specific instruction for routine tasks and is expected to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Scientist will meet regularly with both the Bioscience Manager and the Director of Manufacturing to discuss needs, new projects, and department goals.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of bioMérieux’s Quality System.
2. Expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts.
3. Plans and executes laboratory research.
4. Responsible for organizing and supervising group members to accomplish specific tasks.
5. Work may involve development of new instrumentation, software or processes, customer support and skills.
6. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
7. Required to interact with various company departments.  More specifically, coordinate any biochemistry need or input with the manufacturing team developing the manufacturing line and with the designated manufacturing team to whom manufacturing will be transferred.
8. Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.
9. Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought. 
10. Ensures that laboratory notebooks for assigned projects/experiments are maintained in accordance with the bioMérieux Employment Handbook.

     11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Training, Education and Experience

1. Requires a Masters in a scientific discipline or equivalent years and experience.
2. (5) years of experience in a research and/or development environment.
