Description

Position Summary
This engineer is responsible for ensuring that designs of new diagnostic instrument products have been optimized for cost, ease of assembly, and manufacturability. This individual works within a team under the leadership of a project manager and is expected to work and communicate well with other team members and leadership.

Primary Duties
  • Uses engineering concepts, follows company SOPs/WIDs, department SOPs/WIDs to solve a variety of defined engineering problems.
  • Analyzes designs of products for manufacturability, including, but not limited to, optimization of mechanical joints/fasteners, optimizing assembly part count, tolerance stack analysis, and optimization of manufacturing methods.
  • Writes WIDs, design documentation, test cases, validation documentation, engineering investigation reports, and other documents associated with industrialization of products.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of assembly and test fixtures for sub-assemblies and complete assemblies.
  • Interfaces with program management, project management, engineers, manufacturing line personnel, quality assurance, and others in the development of manufacturing processes.
  • Reports to project and program management on all tasks and timelines.
  • Works with vendors to define, create, and develop processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works on problems of limited scope and complexity.
  • Receives moderate oversight from a senior engineer.

Training and Education
Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.

Experience
Two years minimum mechanical/industrialization engineering experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience with mechanical design (SolidWorks experience preferred).
  • Experience with risk analysis and FMEAs.
  • Knowledge and practical application of Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Service, Testing, and Cost
  • Skilled in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of FDA design controls preferred.
