Senior Manager - Engineering Line Support

Description of Responsibilities

Job Summary 

This Engineering Line Support Manager works with both engineering and production teams to directly support the instrument manufacturing operations.  This is achieved through leadership and management of a team of engineers and engineering technicians that provide various services to instrument manufacturing, including direct instrument troubleshooting and investigations, manufacturing/testing equipment maintenance, various engineering team project technician support, and direct contributions to our continuous improvement focus within manufacturing. 

 This individual is a recognized expert regarding knowledge of our instrumentation and associated failure modes with respect to manufacturing and testing processes. They use strong communication skills to coordinate investigations into product non-conformances, proper dispositions and corrective actions, and then reporting this data, including recommending solutions and/or projects to improve the product reliability, manufacturability, and/or serviceability of our instruments.  This includes involvement in how we generate and use our performance and failure data to improve product quality.

 This individual is expected to work and communicate well with other team members, including leadership within instrument manufacturing, quality assurance, and engineering, and assume leadership as assigned in order to meet the goals of the project, the department, and the company. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

 Uses engineering and production concepts, company SOPs/WIDs, department SOPs/WIDs to lead production line support activities

  1. Provide manufacturing engineering line support team coordination/resource allocation to maximize efficiencies and ensure all line and engineering support needs are met.
  2. Manage and train manufacturing engineering technician team to follow BioFire’s non-conformance investigation process, production related processes, and engineering design control processes as required.
  3. Ensure that manufacturing equipment and processes meets the needs of production
  4. Set and review goals and objectives for Mfg Eng Techs every 6 months, including employee reviews
  5. Ensure line support processes meet the needs of the manufacturing engineering line support team.
  6. Provide team leadership and training.
  7. Ensure processes produce products that meet quality expectations and specifications
  8. Communicate progress and needs to the Director of Instrument Manufacturing Engineering.
  9. Perform data collection, analysis and reporting from various manufacturing processes, and present analysis and recommendations to Director of Instrument Manufacturing Engineering
  10. Performs other duties as assigned

 Travel: Minimal travel required

  1. Team: Usually works on a team with several engineers, including project and/or engineering manager. The project team often includes groups outside engineering such as quality, production, materials handling, purchasing, program management and regulatory. 

Qualifications

Training and Education

  • B.S. in Engineering or Equivalent strongly recommended 

Experience

  • 3 years of experience in related field, including performance consistent with said experience.

 Physical Requirements

  • Able to safely lift 50 pounds.
