Position Summary:

As an Associate Scientist, you will participate and assist in planning and conducting activities to develop new products or techniques / methods within R&D Microbiology in full compliance with current quality and safety standards as well as provide assistance and technical support for activities to improve or support existing products, methods or techniques.


Position Details:

  • Responsible for execution of experiments with precision in BSL 2 laboratory.
  • Handling of human blood and microbiological cultures, including bacteria, yeasts, moulds, Nocardia, and mycobacteria species using appropriate safety precautions
  • Responsible for organizing the materials needed to complete assigned tasks and activities.


  • Provides support in performing experimental activities and method development by executing routine and experiment specific tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining strain collection, including inventory, and routine culturing.
  • Provide assistance in data collection and entry.
  • Compliance with established procedures, protocols, and GDP and quality standards
  • Applies scientific principles and techniques to tasks and experiments.
  • Participate in the careful execution of protocols.
  • Generates documentation detailing established protocols and procedures in accordance with standards.
  • Contributes to the ongoing activities relative to laboratory operations. Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prioritizes activities to meet deadlines.
  • Communicates results or problems to supervisor or senior staff members.

Studies and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree or higher
  • Possible fields of knowledge: Microbiology preferred, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology
  • Laboratory safety
  • Competency in aseptic technique and basic microbiology technique
  • Understanding of GLP/GMP
  • Understanding of lab procedures and standard laboratory equipment
  • Ability to acquire and perform new laboratory techniques
  • Good communication skills in verbal and written English
  • Good computer skills (i.e. Excel and MS Word)
  • Good organizational skills

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged standing
