Position Summary

The Associate Director of Engineering – Shared Services directs, plans, leads, and motivates the Engineering Shared Services support teams (Drafting, Cad Admin, PLM Team, and Documentation Specialist) in support of department objectives and in alignment with company vision, priorities, and strategies.  This position consults with the Director of Shared Services and other department leaders regarding the vision, strategy, culture, and objectives.  This position is responsible for creating action plans for strategy implementation in an effort to achieve department objectives.

This position ensures that Drafting, Cad Admin, PLM team, and documentation specialist activities of the company are accomplished in accordance with the company’s quality system.  This individual ensures that all employees on these teams are trained and understand their roles and interdependencies within both the engineering shared services support team they are assigned to, and other teams and departments. 

In consultation with senior department leadership, this individual provides guidance to managers / supervisors/ etc. regarding resource (staffing, physical, and process) needs capital equipment, space, and process needs / improvements.  This individual continual mentoring coaching, and feedback for direct reports.

Department objectives and goals are achieved, in large part, through the execution of engineering projects.  This individual provides direction for projects through the associated mangers and / or project managers.  He / she champions and / or supports projects through monitoring existing projects, proposing new projects, and providing high level project guidance, support, and technical consultation where necessary and within his / her purview.  He / She may be a leader on corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and may be involved in internal and external audits representing the engineering work within his / her purview.

 

This position receives delegated department responsibilities as Directed by the Director of Engineering Shared Services.

  • Documentation specialist(s)

 

Primary Duties

  • Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards
  • Collaborate and coordinate effectively with other department leaders and personnel to achieve company goals / objectives
  • Consult on department vision, strategy, culture, and objectives
  • Participates in department budgeting and strategic planning
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, coaching, and feedback to reporting managers / supervisors / etc.
  • Generate action plans in support of company / department vision, strategy, culture, and objectives
  • Ensure all employees within the group perform all work effectively and in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of Biofire / Biomerieux’s Quality system
  • Provide coordination / resource allocation to maximize efficiencies and ensure all design, development, transfer to production, administrative needs and all other engineering needs are met
  • Direct the Drafting, Cad Admin, PLM admin, and documentation specialist to follow Biofire design controls, design change controls, and other relevant processes and procedures
  • Ensure that equipment and processes meet the needs of engineering projects and activities
  • Set and review goals and objectives for the group
  • Ensure engineering WIDS meet the needs of the engineering groups
  • Provide team leadership and training
  • Ensure processes produce products that meet quality expectations and specifications
  • Communicate progress and needs to the Director of Engineering – Shared services
  • Work with Department management and program management to set goals for the engineering shared services department
  • Perform data collection, analysis, and reporting from various projects and processes
  • Champions projects and proposes and executes initiatives
  • May be a leader on corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and may be involved in internal and external audits representing the engineering work within his / her purview
  • Receives delegated engineering department responsibilities as directed by the Director Engineering shared services dept
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Training and Education

BS in Engineering or Equivalent

Experience

8+ years of experience in related field to include a minimum of 5 years management experience, including performance consistent with said experience

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience with the following is preferred:

  • Cad Administration
  • PLM Administration
  • Best practices for Drafting and GD&T
  • Knowledgeable of QMS systems and medical device standards

  • Management of engineering personnel and projects, including project management best practices and execution

  • Coaching, giving feedback, performance reviews

  • Engineering Equipment expertise

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.

Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.

Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.

Ability to operate heavy machinery.

Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.

Domestic travel required    __5__ % of time
