Mechanical Engineering Co-op/Internship
The engineering co-op/intern student will work alongside, and in support of, The Mechanical R&D hardware team, located in SLC, UT. The engineering teams are a diverse, collaborative group working on the support and development of medical devices; the devices are used to automate in vitro diagnostics. Our team works with minature Automation/Mechatronics, Heat transfer and Micro fuidics to design our products.
The engineering co-op student will be supervised and mentored by the Mechanical Engineering Manager or a Sr Mechanical Engineer. Interaction with Project Leaders and other engineers will occur on a daily basis as needed during the co-op/internship period.
Basic Knowledge: The co-op/intern will obtain basic knowledge related to medical instrumentation research, development, design and testing. Candidates will be expected to have general Mechanical engineering knowledge including the use of CAD, standard engineering tools and laboratory test equipment, understanding of general laboratory practices, general computer applications competencies (word processing, spreadsheet, internet data search, software programming, etc.), and strong oral and written communication skills.
Project Activities: This position will include design of parts and tooling, creation and execution of verification tests, troubleshooting and evaluating instrument and system issues, and supporting engineering evaluations and feasibility efforts.
Design and Development Process: The co-op/intern will be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of the bioMerieux Design Control Process that addresses US and international regulatory requirements, as well as internal Quality Assurance.
Mechanical Engineering undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered. Completion of at least sophomore year of undergraduate studies is preferred, but not required.
* Internship will start in May 9, 2023-September 2, 2023; 30+ hour work week
