Position Summary:

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering, is a senior management position, whose primary mission consists of the management, coordination, mentoring, and staffing of software engineers and architects involved in delivering bioMérieux medical device software. This position is expected to oversee the team members in the area of software development while considering long term architecture, solution universality, practicality, connectivity, and schedule commitments. The position requires the ability to embrace agility, perform risk analysis, work well in teams, and self-manage and provide oversight and leadership to a team of technical experts.

 

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering, while working with the context of the bioMérieux Quality Management System, will collaborate and engage with other technical managers, project/program leads, scientists and engineers while prototyping, integrating and testing the technology for the next generation of diagnostic products for hospitals and laboratories. Coordination as a technical leader of project team members with marketing, project management, quality analytics, manufacturing, regulatory and other functional areas will be required.


Additionally the Senior Manager, Software Engineering and the Software Engineering team will be required to support currently launched products, including field support, anomaly review and mitigation, and product evolution and change requests.

 

Primary Duties:

  1. Ensures the development of marketable products and technologies including their support by organizing the function(s), by defining the objectives, and by managing the development activities.
  2. Provide expertise on the application of our Quality Management System throughout the software development lifecycle.
  3. Ensures the continued support of products in the field through the manufacturing and quality processes.
  4. Responsible for the management and development of people, mentors key individuals, ensures the integrity of the performance management process and the development/training plans.  Recommends salary evolutions.
  5. Work hand-in-hand with Software Project Leads and cross-function teams to manage the software function using the  understanding of the capacities and characteristics of the technical staff and the ability to optimize the unique contribution of each one.
  6. Arbitrate in case of objective conflicts and moderate interactions between the staff and the other team members.
  7. Integrate parallel global projects involving other departments and guaranteeing efficient communication.
  8. Create processes and procedures in accordance with Function/Project/Program needs.
  9. Drives continuous improvement of processes and procedures in accordance with projects/programs and function’s needs, both inside and outside the function, ensuring compliance with the quality system and regulations as well as Global R&D procedures.
  10. Manage and control the operating budget of the function as well as specific costs of assigned projects, focusing on both immediate and long-range objectives.

Position Requirements:

  1. B.S. in Business Administration with focus on Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field of study.
  2. 5+ years experience with leading teams of software engineers.
  3. Managing multiple software teams in a matrixed team environment.
  4. Understanding of product development and service life cycles.
  5. Deep understanding of company organization, operations and management processes; understands the product and services development cycle and/or good scientific practices; knowledge about industry and competition’s products and technologies.
  6. Understanding of product development in a regulated environment.
  7. First-hand experience with agile methodologies.
  8. Candidate must be well grounded in the fundamentals of software development lifecycles.
  9. Ability to lead and direct others in a technical environment, and collaboratively work with members across multiple disciplines.
  10. Ability to lead and influence in a matrix organization.
  11. Strong planning and leadership skills, with proven ability to meet business objectives.
  12. Strong business acumen in addition to project management and technical skills.
  13. First hand experience in an ISO/ FDA regulated environment is highly desirable.
