Position Summary:

The Molecular Systems Research Associate III position is a full-time, exempt position. This position is part of a team working on various laboratory procedures involving nucleic acid isolation methods and PCR under general guidance. This person will work closely with other research associates or scientists in the research lab. Additional duties include:

  • Performing general lab duties.
  • Creating an organized and productive research environment.
  • Designing and conducting experiments.
  • Collecting and analyzing data.
  • Keeping a detailed and accurate record of all work done per the Quality System.

This position requires laboratory technical and organizational skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Applicants with molecular biology experience, research and development lab experience, and BSL experience will be preferred. Familiarity with nucleic acid extraction and PCR is a plus.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of its Quality System.
  • Performs experiments using several different instruments produced by bioMerieux.
  • Responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others for assigned projects.
  • Performs lab duties and experiments.
  • Collects and analyzes data relating to the assigned projects.
  • Contributes to project processes within his/her scientific discipline.
  • Contributes to creating protocols and writing reports for experiments.
  • Utilizes sterile techniques in a general and biosafety laboratory environment.
  • Must input detailed experimental designs, results, and conclusions in the laboratory notebooks.

Training and Education:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree in a scientific discipline is a plus.

Master’s degree in biology, microbiology or equivalent and two years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of experience, preferably in a clinical or industrial setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. The ideal candidate will demonstrate skills in basic laboratory technician practices (pipetting, materials handling, contamination control). A basic understanding of PCR and nucleic acid extraction is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver ~ 20 lbs safely.
  • Must maintain regular and consistent attendance
  • Must be able to work standing or sitting at a lab bench under a BSC hood for upwards to 2+ hours with appropriate personal protective equipment.
