Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineering Technician III position is a technical role within the R&D Engineering Department. The individual in this position is expected to contribute to the development of complex medical instruments by collaborating closely with R&D engineers to support the design, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of various prototype instruments and electromechanical sub-assemblies. This role involves exposure to a wide variety of tasks and technologies such as 3D printing, testing and troubleshooting, CAD design and drawing interpretation, manual machining, assembly and fabrication of prototypes and or testing fixtures.

 

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot electromechanical assemblies and identify underlying causes of failure.
  • Create and operate test fixtures to validate designs, perform acceptance testing, and gather reliability data.
  • Create appropriate documentation such as test reports, technical communications, change notices, and maintenance logs.
  • Assist Mechanical engineers with component selection and evaluation.
  • Assemble prototype instruments and testing fixtures.
  • Additional support of R&D activities as assigned.

 

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Degree in Mechanicl Engineering Technology (MET) and three or more years of experience (or equivalent training/experience).
  • Capability to read technical drawings and troubleshoot problems at the component level.
  • Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and a proactive attitude.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles and a history of hands-on experience.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate well with peers and management.
  • Proficiency in the use of laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, etc.).

 

Desired Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Competency assembling electromechanical components such as motors and linear actuators and mechanical structures.  
  • Familiarity with CAD tools and creating/editing mechanical drawings (Solidworks preferred).
  • Knowledge of 3D printing, manual machining and welding is a plus.
  • Experience in a regulated industry is a plus (pharmaceutical, medical device, aerospace and defense, etc.).
