Description

This is a full-time non-exempt position. This position is part of a team working to support the efforts of the research laboratories so they can continue to function at high efficiency.  This position performs routine work independently, will receive general instructions on new assignments and special needs.  Works under the supervision of senior laboratory support staff, reports directly to the Laboratory Operations Manager.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of its Quality System
  2. Monitor, maintain, and record condition of laboratory equipment.
    1. Maintain instrument records, including inventory and status
    2. Coordinate technical support and repair needs
    3. Perform instrument decontamination and packaging
    4. Perform basic calibration and preventative maintenance
    5. Perform troubleshooting and basic repairs
  3. Ensure that laboratory supplies and stocks are maintained at appropriate levels.
    1. Assist with distribution and storage of FilmArray pouches
  4. Ensure that laboratory trash is handled and disposed of properly.
    1. Perform autoclave operation and maintenance as necessary
  5. Perform routine cleaning and organization of laboratory spaces.
    1. Monitor weekly cleaning events
    2. Collect and process environmental swabs as needed
  6. Support laboratory notebook recording and archiving.
  7. Perform additional tasks as need to maintain laboratory operation, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
Training and Education

Requires an associate’s degree in a life sciences field and 1 year lab experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 

Experience

This role requires general experience with laboratory safety and hygiene practices. Experience working with and troubleshooting equipment is required.  Some experience with maintaining supplies and inventory is needed.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The qualified applicant must be able to maintain a regular work schedule, be organized, and take responsibility for identifying and resolving issues as they arise. General knowledge with computers and a working knowledge of Microsoft office products is required. Must have reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to safely lift and maneuver 50lbs. Must be able to work standing for long periods of time. Must be able to work on a ladder or stepstool.
