Description

BioFire Diagnostics is a global leader in developing, manufacturing, marketing, and supporting FDA-cleared molecular diagnostics for infectious disease. The BioFire Molecular Control Material Core’s Molecular Biology Research and Development team has an internship position available for Spring 2023. This internship is targeted towards students enrolled in the University of Utah’s Professional Masters of Science and Technology program and will offer these students) an opportunity to contribute to an early-stage research or product development project and to be immersed in a highly productive and collaborative biotechnology environment while satisfying the requirements of the PMST Program internship. Under the close supervision of a mentorship team, interns may participate in any or all of the following activities, depending on the specific project: (1) perform general laboratory duties; (2) perform wet lab molecular biology work; (3) assist in planning and setup activities for research studies; (4) participate in data analysis and presentation; (5) co-develop and test new research productivity tools; (6) develop and enact project plans; (7) fulfill key project deliverables; and (7) maintain accurate records of work performed, in accordance with BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality Management System. Internships are considered non-exempt positions and part-time.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties may include molecular biology work in the laboratory, general laboratory support activities, study planning, data analysis, presentation of results, and accurate and thorough recordkeeping. Interns will:

  1. Listen actively while receiving instruction, to quickly master assigned duties
  2. Be present and engaged during scheduled work hours
  3. Ask questions when any aspect of assigned work is unclear
  4. Be curious and persistent when solving problems
  5. Behave professionally while representing BioFire Diagnostics
  6. Participate in research team meetings
  7. Perform assigned duties with a conscientious and detail-oriented approach
  8. Prepare preliminary analyses of experimental data for review with mentor
  9. Assist mentor in preparing presentations of data and conclusions
  10. Perform and document all work in compliance with BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality Management System.

Training and Education

Applicants must be enrolled in the University of Utah’s PMST Program pursuing a biotechnology-related or data science track master’s degree.

Experience:

Some previous work experience in any area is preferred.

Experience in a life sciences laboratory or in clinical research is a plus but is not required.
