Description

Primary Duties

  • Lead the US State Government Affairs initiatives to protect and advance patient access to BMx diagnostics and its business units before policymakers, elected officials, trade and business associations as well as other allies and influencers.
  • Build the reputation of bioMerieux US State Government Affairs as the preferred, go-to trusted partner, honest brokers who drive for constructive solutions.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key members of State government agencies and executive offices.
  • Involved in identifying key targets, prioritizing resources, networking with office staffs and developing outreach and grassroots programs.
  • Stay apprised of business goals and strategies in order to assess impact to bioMerieux from state/regional, executive and regulatory activities.
  • Identify health care, economic and other State policy developments that could impact bioMerieux’s business and operations including environmental, R&D and human resources.
  • Represent bioMerieux with key state-level political organizations including: NCSL, CSG, NCOIL
  • Actively participate in key product launches to ensure state-level perspectives.

 

Qualifications

  • At minimum, 15 years as a state-government affairs lobbyist in healthcare. 
  • Experience managing multiple state-level contract lobbyists.
  • Graduate degree required.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience as a state government affairs lobbying
  • Previous experience lobbying multiple states for healthcare (pharmaceutical, vaccines or medical devices).
  • Experience managing multiple contract state lobbyists.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive experience and understanding of US state-level political environment (e.g., budget process, rulemaking and Medicaid).
  • Knowledge of state legislative and rulemaking processes; experience researching and analyzing complex public policy issues
  • Extensive policy and analytical expertise with the ability to drive consensus among a diverse array of interests and priorities.
  • Ability to evaluate and distill critical issues and trends to formulate and mobilize strategies both within an organization and among government constituents.
  • Prior involvement with government agencies at the state-level.
  • Established network of contacts within government and with third-party consultants and lobbyists particularly in the healthcare sector.
  • Experience with thinking strategically and adapting to changing political and policy environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to create content to specific audience.
  • Outstanding ethical sense.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to collaborate with others.
  • Previous experience as a state-level legislative staffer or congressional aide.
