Description

The Public Policy and Advocacy Director will report to the VP of Government Affairs and Market Access, working directly with the US Federal and State Government Affairs Team, the Global Government Affairs Team, Research and Development (R&D) and Regulatory.  The Director will pursue solutions-oriented approaches to healthcare policy  as part of a proactive Government Affairs Team. This role will influence the external policy landscape so that the value of bioMérieux’s pipeline, portfolio and business is protected and enhanced.  In addition, this role will be responsible for orchestrating stakeholder engagement initiatives to support overall business imperatives. 

Primary Duties
  • With the US Government Team, identify and analyze key policy issues and emerging opportunities, providing insights and developing recommendations and legislative comments.  Proactively summarize key issues and disseminate analysis to internal stakeholders while incorporating the expertise and input of colleagues across the company.
  • Provide expertise to Government Affairs to identify mitigations and opportunities to shape legislation, proposed rules and RFIs.
  • Research and develop federal and state positions on key public policy issues with the potential to impact bioMérieux’s business and payors.  Collaborate with colleagues across the company to promote its overall business, legislative and policy goals.
  • Develop materials for use in engagement with external stakeholders (e.g., Congress, federal/state agencies and patient groups) as well as for internal education on key policy developments and issues.
  • Engage with advocacy groups, policy think tanks and business organizations on priority issues, tracking public policy developments and working to shape industry’s broader positioning.
  • Together with US Government Affairs Team and internal business leaders, prioritize public policy issues and develop and implement strategy to elevate bioMérieux’s interests.
  • Attend national and state political conferences to provide education and insights and influence favorable policy decisions.

Training & Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Policy, Public Health, Communications required 
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Policy preferred 
 
Experience
  • 7+ years combined policy and/or legislative experience in healthcare industry.
  • 7+  years recent experience with government, trade association, advocacy organization, policy think tank or healthcare industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Knowledge of federal/state legislative and rulemaking processes; experience researching and analyzing complex public policy issues required.
  • Experience developing and driving projects that align with and amplify strategy and priorities within a large organization.
  • Experience in working with advocacy organizations, think tanks and/or professional health societies.
 
 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Broad understanding of the US legislative environment (e.g., Congress and States).
  • Ability to thrive in a cross-functional team environment with multiple decision-makers and to collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders with a range of perspectives and experiences.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with a passion for owning projects and driving them to completion in a timely manner.
  • Possess high Emotional IQ.
  • Strong presentation skills required.
