Description

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of health, safety, and environmental programs within the site. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices to create a safe and healthy work environment.  Drives the site towards an Interdependent Safety Culture. The position is a key contributor and supports the implementation bioMerieux’ s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and initiatives.

  • Leads HSE compliance programs by working closely with the Site Manager, site department heads and other staff to develop and implement strategic plans for compliance and performance site wide. 
  • Develops written environmental and safety plans to improve the safety culture, eliminate injuries and environmental compliance violations, and maximize environmental stewardship and sustainability. 
  • Identifies, manages, and escalates areas of HSE non compliances (legal, company requirements, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) and work with appropriate departments to solve the identified risks. 
  • Maintains ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems and represents the site during audits. 
  • Performs and /or coordinates industrial hygiene and environmental testing and monitors to ensure compliance with governmental and Company regulations.
  • Leads and/or coordinates HSE incident investigations and communicates the same throughout bioMérieux as indicated by procedure. Conducts follow up audits to ensure that corrective actions are taken as indicated through investigations.
  • Develops and implements HSE training programs that provide necessary organizational knowledge to achieve company and regulatory objectives including compliance.
  • Analyzes performance metrics and implements plans for compliance and performance improvement. 
  • Develops, implements, and conducts employee training for safety and environmental regulations as directed by OSHA, MDNR, DOT, EPA, or other appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Leads and develops the HSE Team to maintain the bioMérieux Safety Culture. 
  • Supports local, regional, and global HSE initiatives. 
  • Communicates effectively to all team members on relevant HSE topics.

Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of HSE related experience is required, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in HSE management and at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
    • Associate’s degree with 12+ years of HSE related experience is required, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in HSE management and at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment also accepted
    • High school diploma or GED with 14+ years of HSE related experience is required, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in HSE management and at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment also accepted
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations, experience in the interpretation of local and state environmental and safety and standards.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the integration of HSE into the manufacturing process is preferred.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including experience presenting to and training others.
