Description

The Exploratory Microbiology team works and behaves with an entrepreneurial spirit to generate new product concepts for bioMérieux’s development pipeline.   The Scientist’s primary responsibility will be to support Bioscience laboratory operations.  The Scientist will also have opportunities to aid in the conceptualization, design, and development of high quality medical diagnostic products.

 

Main Accountabilities:

  • Manage the equipment, see to the proper functioning of laboratories, and propose actions for continuous improvement.
  • Is responsible for performing activities related to product development and support, including experimental planning (at least for near-term activities) and execution as well as creation of detailed documentation.
  • May design experiments to optimize technical performance (conduct and analyze relevant bibliographic surveys to support this activity).
  • Creates and presents reports on conducted experiments.
  • Is responsible for an accurate data analysis process as well as contributes to the interpretation of results together with team, and deduces further work to be carried out.
  • Contributes to the ongoing activities relative to laboratory operations.  Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prioritizes activities to meet deadlines.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Follows universal precautions and wears appropriate personal protective equipment when working in the Bioscience laboratory.
  • Uses aseptic technique to prevent contamination or cross contamination in the laboratory.
  • Utilizes knowledge of basic chemistry to create various solutions.
  • Uses and coordinates routine and non-routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Assesses stock levels for laboratory supplies and places orders as necessary to maintain inventory.
  • Maintain and prepare microorganisms and necessary reagents for experimentation.
  • Disposes of chemicals and other laboratory waste following the proper health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures.

 

Required experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Education/Experience:  Associates in Science or Associates in Applied Science in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with a minimum 8 years of experience in a laboratory setting  OR 
    • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting OR
    • Master of Science or Master of Arts in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with no prior experience in a laboratory setting
  •  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software
  • Individual must be self-motivated and proactive in identifying tasks which enable the successful operation of the laboratory.

 

Desired experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Knowledge of clinical microbiology
  • Experience working in a regulated environment
  • Experience working with complex medical instrumentation and disposables
