BioFire Diagnostics, LLC. is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team! This mechanical engineer works within the instrument improvements engineering team and/or a project team– generally under the leadership of a more experienced individual (e.g. senior/principal engineer, engineering manager, and/or project manager). This engineer uses experience and education to perform the types of engineering activities which are generally considered within the realm of mechanical engineering and any other expertise that might be held by this particular individual. This engineer is expected to work and communicate well with other team members and leadership as assigned in order to meet the goals of the project, the department, and the company.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
  2. General: uses experience and education to perform the types of engineering activities which are generally considered within the realm of mechanical engineering.
  3. Description: Uses engineering concepts, company SOPs/WIDs, department SOPs/WIDs to solve a variety of difficult or complex engineering problems across functional groups and disciplines.
  4. Works on: problems of moderate or significant scope and complexity. Generally works on a team with other engineers.
  5. Influence: receives some or limited oversight from a Senior or Principal Engineer, eligible to be a discipline lead or usually is a disciplined lead on a project, may provide or provides mentoring for other engineers, and may provide or provides limited department management and leadership.
  6. Makes design and technical decisions subject to review by Senior, Principal, and other engineers.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supplemental Data

  1. Travel: minimal travel required.
  2. Team: usually works on a team with several engineers and a project manager.

Training and Education

B.S. in Engineering or Equivalent.

 

Experience

Mechanical Engineer III

5 years of experience in related field, including performance consistent with said experience.

 
Mechanical Engineer IV

10 years of experience in related field, including performance consistent with said experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience with the following is preferred:

  1. Solidworks
  2. Plastics design
  3. Optics design
  4. Sheet metal design
  5. Heat Transfer
  6. Molding Processes
  7. Materials (e.g. plastics, aluminum, copper, steel, etc.)
  8. Pneumatics
  9. Machining (esp. CNC)
  10. GD&T
  11. Six Sigma/Lean/SPC
  12. Manufacturing processes
  13. Statistical analysis

Physical Requirements

Able to safely lift 20 pounds.
