BioFire Diagnostics, LLC. is looking to add an experienced Data Architecture Engineer to our growing team!  The Data Architecture Engineer III designs, implements, and maintains data systems for BioFire Diagnostics.

The person in this position acts as a technical stakeholder on all activities relating to database administration, including the implementation and maintenance of new database systems and data platforms and the maintenance and continual improvement of existing data systems. They work with senior data engineers, data producers and data consumers throughout the organization by to understand business needs and data requirements. Under the direction of the Manager of Data Architecture and other senior data engineers, they support functional, reliable, and well-maintained databases that span multiple areas of the business.

The person in this position is expected to learn the BioFire business and to support company objectives to the best of their ability. They will partner with business and technical teams to meet company and department goals. They are expected to work in a friendly, helpful and professional manner with all BioFire personnel.

Data Architecture Engineers at this level are expected to maintain a firm grasp on current technologies and best practices, and to continually improve their skills within the field of database management and data architecture. They will work with and learn from more experienced data engineers during their day-to-day job duties.

The Data Architecture Engineer is responsible for participating in a 24x7 support environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
  2. Perform duties as detailed in BioFire Diagnostics’ technical mission and Code of Business Conduct.
  3. Respond to relevant escalated support issues.
  4. Work with senior data engineers to implement data solutions to meet business needs.
  5. Maintain BioFire Diagnostics’ enterprise databases, data warehouses, and associated technology assets.
  6. Participate in departmental and corporate projects and help see them to successful completion.
  7. Develop an understanding of networking, application, and database concepts, as well as an understanding of systems lifecycles.
  8. Learn data management best practices and discover potential areas for improvement.
  9. Work with managers and senior data engineers to plan for the growth needs of the databases, data platforms, and associated infrastructure.
  10. Continually update technical knowledge and skills and suggest improvements to existing systems.
  11. Monitor and manage the data lifecycle, including backups, retention policies, and pruning policies for data systems.
  12. Participate as needed in the Data Governance Committee and the Change Advisory Boards.
  13. Help manage and maintain data systems on Azure and Amazon data platforms.
  14. Help maintain a 24x7 support environment.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Training and Education

Level I & II

Requires Bachelor of Science in a technical field, OR equivalent industry experience and/or certifications.

Examples of acceptable certifications include, but are not limited to:

 

  1. Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
  2. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) SQL Database Administration
  3. Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Data Management and Analytics
  4. Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals
  5. Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate
  6. Microsoft Certified Azure Developer Associate
  7. Microsoft Certified Azure Solution Architect
  8. Microsoft Certified Azure Security Engineer Associate
  9. ITIL Foundation Certification
  10. ITIL Intermediate Certification
  11. ITIL MALC Examination
  12. ITIL Expert Certification
  13. Project Management Institute (PMI) / Project Management Professional (PMP)

 

Experience

Level I

This is an entry-level role.  No previous experience is required; however, previous directly related experience in data architecture or related field is preferred.

Level II

Requires 1 year of work experience in data architecture or related field.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Technical skills:

  1. Maintaining Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure.
  2. Database performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
  3. Creating SQL queries.
  4. Implementing and maintaining cloud infrastructures for data systems.

Customer service skills:

  1. Must be able to interact with end users and staff in a professional, friendly manner.
  2. Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate highly technical information to a diverse group of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Infrastructure Management Skills:

  1. Must be able to support the monitoring and maintenance of databases and data systems.

Project Management skills:

  1. Basic understanding of project management principles.
