Associate Staff Scientist

Position Summary:

The Exploratory Microbiology team works and behaves with an entrepreneurial spirit to generate new product concepts for bioMérieux’s development pipeline.   The Associate Staff Scientist’s responsibility will be to contribute technical and scientific expertise to the conceptualization, design and development of high quality medical diagnostic products.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Versatile, self-starter, with demonstrated ability to learn and work independently to reduce scientific and engineering principles to practice
  • Strong and diverse scientific experience
  • Works and plays a technical leadership role in a cross-functional, applied research environment
  • Enjoys working hands-on in the laboratory
  • Understands medical and customer needs
  • Identifies and proposes potential product concepts, in consultation with marketing
  • Designs  comprehensive rationale to develop viable product concepts
  • Ability to analyze data, draw sound conclusions and make recommendations
  • Monitors scientific literature and stays current with advances in technology
  • Contributes to scientific publications, including patents and publications in peer reviewed journals


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field with:
    • Ph.D. + 2 years of relevant experience
    • M.S. + 3/5 years of relevant experience
    • B.S. + 5/10 years of relevant experienc 
  • Scientific curiosity, creativity and flexibility are the keys of success for this position
  • High level of oral and written communication skills


Desirable experience:

  • Knowledge of clinical microbiology preferred
  • Molecular biology including familiarity with a variety of nucleic acid detection techniques
  • Product development in a regulated environment
  • Intellectual property
