Systems Engineer

Position Summary:

The Systems Engineering & Support engineer is responsible for providing expert level R&D support including root cause investigations, performing impact assessments, reporting findings in compliance with quality systems, and defining workarounds for field issues as needed for the VIRTUO product.  The Systems Engineer is also responsible for providing support to VIRTUO projects which could include R&D project team representation, evaluating and documenting impact assessments, creating system verification documentation and test execution, and the review/creation of service documentation.

Studies and Experience:

A minimum of a BS in one of the following is preferred:

  • Biomedical engineering
  • System engineering
  • Electrical engineering
  • Mechanical engineering


  • 2 years or more of previous experience with electro/mechanical/software/firmware development or servicing, complaint handling, risk management, verification or validation testing.
  • Master degree would be a plus.
  • Prior bioMerieux product experience will be considered of great value.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic competence in programming techniques
  • Competence in troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical instruments
  • Competence in troubleshooting software and operating system issues in a Windows environment
  • Basic competence in instrument/system development and testing  
  • Knowledge of FDA QSR, specifically design controls is preferred
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to schedule and work with little supervision
  • Exceptional Technical writing and communication skills
  • Exceptional Attention to Detail
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Organizational skills
  • Excellent Communication skills


Additional Information:

The System Engineer must communicate well with Project Managers, Program Managers, Quality Assurance, Regulatory representatives, Marketing, Software, Hardware, Firmware Engineers, Field Engineers, Manufacturing personnel, Product Labeling, Product Validation, and other resources in the complaint handling chain to facilitate project deliverables and investigate/correct any defects which are detected. In addition, they must be willing and able to represent System Engineering and Support in audit scenarios.
