This position requires a working knowledge of the Polymerase Chain Reaction, strong problem-solving skills, and a familiarity with quantitative analysis. The group works closely with Production and Quality Control to identify the root cause of product anomalies and to develop mitigations and process improvements

BioFire Diagnostics, LLC. is currently seeking a Research Associate I or II to join our Research and Development team! This position is within the Molecular Systems Department and will be focused on supporting the production of the FilmArray pouch. This position requires a working knowledge of the Polymerase Chain Reaction, strong problem-solving skills, and a familiarity with quantitative analysis. The group works closely with Production and Quality Control to identify the root cause of product anomalies and to develop mitigations and process improvements. To accomplish these goals the group collaborates with all departments within BioFire. The position requires excellent laboratory skills, the ability to clearly communicate results, and effectively work as part of a team.  Further requirements include a high level of organization and proficiency in data analysis.

 

These goals and responsibilities require a creative individual with a passion for problem-solving.  Duties will likely include analytical and enzymatic measurements of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) reagents with the goal of process improvement. Other activities may involve supporting the creation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Experience with laboratory functions such as volumetric measurements, analytical balances, pipetting, and basic instrument maintenance is desirable.  This position requires the ability to perform routine work with general instructions. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

RA I / II

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
  2. Contributes to project process within his/her scientific discipline.
  3. Ensures that laboratory notebook for assigned projects/experiments are maintained in accordance with the BFDX Employment Handbook.
  4. Performs lab duties and experiments.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

RA I

  1. Responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others for assigned projects.
  2. Collects and analyzes data relating to real-time PCR.

 

RA II

  1. Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses relating to real-time PCR.
  2. May participate in scientific conferences and contribute to scientific journals.
  3. May be responsible for identifying patentable inventions.

 

Qualifications

Training and Education: BS degree in Biochemistry or a closely related field.

Experience: RA I is an entry-level role, so no previous experience is required; however, practical applied experience with PCR, analytical chemistry and biochemical assays is preferred. The RA II role requires previous work experience preferably in molecular biology.

Skills: Given the nature of this role, strong preference will be given to applicants with a basic understanding of PCR and related chemistry is required. Excellent wet chemistry skills desired including pipetting, volumetric measurements, serial dilutions, use of laboratory balances etc. Technical proficiency with good qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills. Computer literacy and proficiency. Must have good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others. Should have the desire to exercise independent thought.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to safely lift and maneuver 60 lbs.
