Primary Purpose and Overall Objective of the Job:

Ensure required Engineering and validation support for the manufacture and packaging of the BacT/ALERT product line are available to meet or exceed production targets and quality.  Execute assigned projects to ensure assets are efficiently deployed to minimize scrap and rework while maximizing OEE, cost of finished goods, and yield.  Provide direct leadership for business critical projects including, design, startup and implementation of new equipment, facilities and processes. 


Context of the Job and Major Challenges:

Execute assigned Continuous Improvement, Cost of Goods Reduction, and Efficiency Projects to ensure the site goals are met.  Develop improvement strategies for existing equipment and processes.   Develop projects and manage change request as required to maintain and improve equipment performance.   Act as a troubleshooter to identify and remove barriers and obstacles that could impede progress.  Provide advice and guidance regarding project management. 


Dimensions of the Job:

Prioritize work load.  Execute projects as they are developed and executed to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.  Communicate changes to project plans as needed.  Develop areas of need as required.  Assist in day to day issues as required.  Participate in facilitate equipment improvement teams and ensure the teams are successful and effective.  Has credibility with maintenance, management, quality, and operations. 

Main Accountabilities:

  1. Execute assigned projects or scope
    1. If possible ensure multiple vendors are approved.
    2. Manage project schedules and project budgets as assigned.
    3. Participate in vendor performance reviews.
    4. Conduct vendor audits as required.
    5. Research and evaluate new vendors as required.


  1. Monitor Equipment Performance
    1. Review OEE results, analyze data, and implement improvements as required.
    2. Support MFG equipment and processes as required.
    3. Review in process scrap and act to improve as required.


  1. Manage and coordinate packaging projects with cross-functional teams
    1. Create specifications such as packaging materials.
    2. Act as liaison between marketing, supply management, R&D, and sales teams.
    3. Assure compliance of package to DOT requirements for Hazardous and Non-Hazardous shipments.
    4. Conduct transportation and container closure studies.
    5. Provide trouble-shooting support related to packaging for production issues.
    6. Utilize statistical process control techniques for production control of packaging lines.
    7. Create Quality Standard Procedures and Work Instructions.
    8. Maintain package specifications.
    9. Work with Marketing / Sales and supply management extensively.
    10. Practice safe work habits in accordance with OSHA and EPA guidelines, and bioMerieux specific EHS expectations.


  1. Create Clear and Concise Capital and Expense Requests
    1. Provide supporting facts and documentation to support project deliverables.
    2. Provide the information in a timely manner.
    3. Monitor progress of the projects to ensure they move at the planned pace.


  1. Team Meetings
    1. Actively participate in team meetings as required.
    2. Act as SME to assigned projects or scope.


Studies, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  1. BS in a technical discipline, preferably in Engineering.
  2. A minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing maintenance/production environment including demonstrated improvements. Regulated environment (FDA  preferred).
  3. A minimum of 2 years of practical engineering application experience.
  4. A minimum of 2 years of capital project management experience.
  5. Credibility with engineering, maintenance, management, quality, and operations.
  6. Can communicate orally and in writing.  Ability to work cross functionally.
  7. Knowledgeable of manufacturing equipment and engineering principles.
  8. Knowledgeable in knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  9. Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and MiniTab preferred.
