Software project managers lead groups of engineers during the development and testing of complicated software projects. They will work with the department directors and stakeholders to ensure that software meets specifications and is delivered on time.

Software project managers work with their design team to create specifications, design documentation, and schedules under which the project operates. They are expected to work efficiently with the management, development, and testing teams to produce high-quality software and system documentation and to move software efficiently through the Quality System. They should have a good understanding of BioFire Diagnostics’ core business and software development life cycles and the enterprise systems that enable them.

Project managers understand company and department goals, and work actively to accomplish these goals.

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
  2. Understand BioFire Diagnostics’ mission, values, and core technologies.
  3. Understand the enterprise systems used by BioFire Diagnostics.
  4. Lead groups of development and test engineers during all phases of the software development life cycle.
  5. Act as the project interface to other teams at BioFire Diagnostics including Production, Marketing, Regulatory, Engineering, and Biochemistry.
  6. Facilitate communication for the team.
  7. Set and communicate priorities and project milestones for the team.
  8. Identify obstacles to the team or project, troubleshoot solutions, and escalate as appropriate.
  9. Write software documentation. Match documentation to the intended audience.
  10. Work with the director and manager of software development to ensure the software meets specifications and is delivered on time.
  11. Understand and accomplish department goals.
  12. Determine the effort required to implement a software design.

Minimum Qualifications

Training & Education:  Requires a Bachelor of Science in an engineering, scientific, or technical field, an/or significant industry experience (5 plus years). 

Experience:  Requires experience writing and maintaining software or managing software projects. Also requires experience writing technical documentation for software projects.

Skills: 

  • Advanced planning, organization, and writing skills.
  • Understanding of software engineering skills, including design, project organization, and configuration management
  • PMP and/or PMI-ACP certifications preferred
