Position Summary:

This role will assist the site Facilities staff in support of Manufacturing, Quality Control and R&D Operations at the Durham, NC bioMerieux location.  This internship will focus on the preventative and corrective maintenance of bioMerieux site equipment and utilities. As part of the site’s Facilities Team, the intern role will focus on several key crafts that may include; HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Refrigeration, Boiler Operation, Chiller Operation, and general Facilities operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in monitoring/operating equipment in order to maintain and/or improve the proper, safe, and efficient functionality of facilities assets.
  • Assist in performing Preventative, Corrective, Predictive and Breakdown work orders on carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, chillers, steam and hot water boilers, fire system and other types of facility equipment as required.
  • Assist with troubleshooting basic mechanical and electrical problems on various facility equipment

 

Supplemental Data:

  • Intern will be contributing to a multi-craft Facilities department in day to day activities.

 

Studies and Experience:

Working towards their Associates Degree (3.0 GPA or above) or pursuing a Technical Certification with an interest in Facilities Maintenance or any trade related profession.

 

If the internship will include access to the manufacturing areas of the company, the student must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong  written and verbal communication skills
  • Mechanical and/or technical ability

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
