L&D Engineering Specialist

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to provide internal and external customers with advanced educational training for the service, repair and maintenance across bioMérieux product ranges.  This position has the primary role in the development and delivery of new and existing educational courses and materials covering all aspects of service, including installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance. The Learning & Development  Engineering Specialist promotes teamwork and cooperation, facilitates proactive communication, and creates enthusiastic and positive work and learning environments.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, and delivers result-oriented service training programs and materials in a variety of learning formats for the internal Field Service and Technical Support Center Organizations, as well as external customers.  Develops training courses and materials adhering to best practices in adult learning principles and methodologies.  Utilizes established department processes (such as the ADDIE development model) and produces the required course documentation for courses  (i.e. presentations, manuals, storyboards, learner and facilitator materials, job aids and other supporting program materials) in order to implement learning solutions.
  • Delivers complex training programs and related materials in support of Customer Learning & Development objectives.  Maintains records of training, participant progress, and program effectiveness utilizing the Learning Management Systems (ComplianceWire, Learning Portal).
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Customer Learning & Development department to achieve smooth and efficient service and maintenance of bioMérieux products in the L&D Training Center.
  • Defines specific performance based learning objectives and ensures course content aligns with the established learning objectives. 
  • Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of existing training programs, presentations, and materials and provides recommendations to ensure program quality and company/department standards. Develops and updates training and learning programs to continuously improve course offerings and maximize learning retention.  Researches and implements new and innovative instructional delivery methods.
  • Maintains and services all equipment in the Learning & Development Department, ensuring proper record keeping and installed base management.
  • Provides remote and field coaching and mentorship to internal customers as well as maintains US regional market expertise and competency via field travel and engagement.
  • Maintains close working relationship and partnership with Global Customer Service Teams to ensure knowledge transfer on all relevant product updates and launches, incorporating all new material into new and existing training programs as necessary.
  • Maintains close working relationship with US Technical Support Centers and CoCA Team to identify opportunities for additional troubleshooting tools and documentation for customers and engineering staff.
  • Utilizes established department processes and procedures within job function. 
  • Maintains appropriate classroom and laboratory setups for training effectiveness and adheres to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Controls operating expenses within Departmental Budget.
  • Performs other job duties as required by the Customer L&D Manager.

 

Studies and Experience:

  • Bachelors/Associate Degree or technical school equivalent in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science or equivalent electronic technology military training and 5 years of related experience
  • 2-5 years of experience and maintains current/in-depth knowledge of hardware and software applications for bioMérieux product lines
  • 2-5 years minimum of directly related service and/or training experience in an engineering or laboratory environment
  • Proven ability to work on mechanical, electrical and vacuum systems as well as experience in troubleshooting skills and resolution of instrument issues with a high level of customer satisfaction.   

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Various instructional methods (such as lecture, discussion, practical exercise, feedback, etc.) and delivery options/media (such as online learning, in person and virtual classroom training, blended learning, etc.)
  • Knowledge or experience of adult learning principles, methods and techniques used in the development and delivery of training programs is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills, including procedural documentation and materials development
  • Excellent Problem Solving and Creative thinking skills
  • Strong detail orientation
  • Ability to manage projects independently. including managing project schedules and deliverables
  • Proficient in desktop computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and preferred experience with learning technologies (i.e. MS Powerpoint, Articulate, LMS, virtual classroom, etc.
