Position Summary:

The US Medical Affairs Field Director is responsible for developing, supporting and managing the team of field-based US Medical Science Liaisons with key areas of focus on medical education, medical training, scientific exchange and stakeholder engagement.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • MSL Team Leadership: Develop and manage a team of field-based MSLs ensuring proper training and compliance with applicable laws and bioMérieux policies and procedures. Collaborates with US and Global Medical Affairs and Sales & Marketing to identify the drivers leading to business success and the strategy for the MSL team activities.  Manage MSL team day-to-day operations and provides reports of summaries of activities to leadership. Diagnose problems related to daily processes, changing business needs and program design.  Determine possible resolutions and implements effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Medical Education/Scientific Exchange: The Director and the MSL team will interact directly with clinical healthcare providers, laboratory personnel and healthcare administrators to ensure understanding of and appropriate utilization of the bioMérieux portfolio of products. Provide expert and accurate advice to customers about disease states, bioMérieux’s products and implementation/evaluation of new products. Ensure the MSL team delivers evidenced-based, fair and balanced medical education to bioMérieux’s customers. Evaluate and manage unsolicited requests for off-label peer-reviewed literature and off-label questions.
  • Medical Training: Create and support quality initiatives to drive an environment of continuous improvement throughout the organization. Support the medical training needs in conjunction with ComOps Training team as well as US and Global Medical Affairs requests. Lead and coordinate the MSL team participation to support medical education and context as needed for Sales and Marketing personnel to increase their medical acumen and understanding of the bioMérieux products.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead the MSL team to develop, manage and execute a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement strategy in each of their geographical and/or subject matter expertise areas. Gain medical insights from in-depth customer feedback for product and service improvement opportunities, areas of research and policy implications.

 

Studies and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, M.D., PhD)
  • Minimum 5 years biomedical industry experience with experience in Medical Affairs
  • Management/Supervisory experience preferred

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge and understanding of relevant hospital (e.g., ICU) and laboratory workflows and their interfaces with bioMérieux products and services
  • Ability to critically interpret and appraise the relevant medical and scientific literature with firm understanding of clinical trial design, data analysis, and scientific methods
  • Excellent presentation skills with proven experience in presenting medical and scientific information to audiences with various degrees of scientific and clinical background
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to external and internal needs, build professional relationships, network, plan projects, negotiate solutions to complex challenges and communicate to any level of the organization effectively
  • Demonstrate experience and success in managing and organizing data, self-managing priorities and multi-tasking projects with a strong attention to detail
  • Highly motivated self-starter able to operate independent of direct oversight
  • Strong learning agility and adaptability
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and Salesforce.com CRM
