Position Summary:

The Exploratory Microbiology team works and behaves with an entrepreneurial spirit to generate new product concepts for bioMérieux’s development pipeline. The Senior Scientist’s responsibility is to support and assist with the conceptualization, design, and development of high-quality medical diagnostic products.  This position is for a versatile support role with opportunity for growth in an exciting and innovative applied research team.



  • Provides technical support to a cross-functional, applied research team consisting of experienced biologists, chemists, and engineers.
  • Practical experience with aseptic laboratory techniques working with bacteria, yeast, and mold.
  • Experience with basic microbiology lab instrumentation and microbiology methods.
  • Responsible for Microbiology lab management. Duties include:
    • Monitor lab supplies inventory and prepare purchase requisitions as needed.
    • Maintain chemical inventory and procurement of chemicals.
    • Represent the department on site safety committee.
    • Support lab instrument calibration program.
    • Follow proper biohazard and chemical waste disposal practices.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.


Studies and Experience:

  • Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Life Science with microbiology focus:
    • Master of Science.
    • Or Bachelor of Science and 1-3 years of relevant experience.

  • Practical experience with aseptic microbiology laboratory techniques.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work onsite.
  • Versatile self-starter with demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to follow protocols as well as develop new strategies to solve problems with unknown solutions.
  • Strong and diverse scientific experience and/or willingness to work outside of primary expertise.
  • Enjoys working hands-on in the laboratory.
  • Desire to understand medical and customer needs, which are imperative to our work.
  • Ability to analyze data, draw sound conclusions and make recommendations on next steps.
  • Ability to use scientific literature to gain deeper understanding of ongoing projects in the lab.
  • May contribute to scientific publications, including patents and publications in peer reviewed journals.


Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of clinical microbiology.
  • Product development in a regulated environment.
  • Data Analysis software tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Spotfire, Minitab, MATLAB, ImageJ).
  • Microscopy
  • Knowledge of analytical characterization methods would be a plus. (e.g., spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, chromatography, particle size analysis, use of multimode plate readers, etc.)
