Position Summary:

The R&D Systems Manager – Mechanical Engineering is a technical management position, expected to play a management role in the mechanical engineering design activities developing complex medical diagnostic equipment.  This person would have a strong Mechanical Engineering background with experience as a technical lead developing complex mechatronic systems.

 

Main Accountabilities:

  • Manages a mechanical engineering team with a focus on people development, mentoring and product development.
  • Mentors less experienced engineers in their technical development.
  • Administers performance management processes for employees.
  • Encourages best practices in engineering design and leads the utilization of advanced Mechanical Engineering theories, methods and research techniques in product development design.
  • Accountable for the technical output of teams up to 5 Mechanical Engineers.
  • Contributes hands-on to the product concept, architecture, and component design.
  • Coordinates, with the other technical disciplines, the integration and development activities of complex electro-mechanical instruments.
  • Develops functional and design requirements for new systems and features and ensures all designs are properly documented.
  • Conducts and participates in technical reviews.
  • Responsible for planning and managing projects within the engineering function, requiring close collaboration and coordination with other global engineering/scientific disciplines, departments, and third-party partners.
  • Accountable for the technical output of 3rd party development firms / partners which includes all planning and coordination activities for the documentation, design, development and testing Mechanical product components.
  • Complies with the design control guidelines and Quality requirements within the company’s regulated ISO\ FDA environment.
  • Builds relationships with external development partners and prospective technology partners; co-develops and drives projects with these partners.

 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Candidate must be well grounded in fundamental Mechanical Engineering design principles with demonstrated hands-on design competency.
  • Experience with managing teams of up to 5 Mechanical Engineers.
  • Strong Systems Engineering and integration skills with demonstrated relevant experience over the full product development cycle for a complex electromechanical system.
  • Ability to lead and direct others in a technical environment, and collaboratively work with members across all engineering disciplines.
  • Extensive experience in designing complex electromechanical systems for medical devices.
  • Experience in designing systems compliant with safety regulations.
  • First-hand experience in an ISO/ FDA regulated environment is highly desirable.

 

Studies & Experience:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent with a minimum of 8+ years’ work experience designing electromechanical or robotic systems.
  • Proficient use of MS Office Project, Excel, Word; Required
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM required.
