Lab Assistant

Position Summary:

The lab technician will be responsible for supporting our R&D team in achieving new diagnostic assay product development initiatives and timelines, under the supervision of project leads. Duties will include laboratory and equipment maintenance, performing experiments, maintaining a lab notebook and other related activities to support lab functions.  In order to be successful as a lab technician you will need to be thorough when carrying out your duties, successfully maintain records of laboratory processes and equipment, and generate reports as needed to submit to the relevant laboratory manager.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support of product development efforts, including maintaining microbial stock and cultures,   building PCR master mixes, performing experiments as assigned, etc.
  • Collecting, receiving, labeling, and/or analyzing samples or substances
  • Executing laboratory testing in line with standard testing procedures, recording observations, and interpreting findings.
  • Recording all experimental data and test results accurately and in the specified format (written and/or electronic.)
  • Ensuring that safety guidelines are adhered to at all times within the laboratory.
  • Cleaning, sterilizing, maintaining, laboratory space and equipment.
  • Managing ordering of laboratory supplies, as needed.

 

Studies and Experience:

  • B.S. in molecular biology, biology, microbiology, biotechnology, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated lab experience in related discipline, in academia or industry.
  • Experience in basic microbiological and molecular biological lab methods:
    • Use of micropipettes
    • Aseptic technique
    • Knowledge of principles of PCR
    • Microbial isolation, culturing, characterization
    • Culture media and solutions preparation
    • DNA analysis (spectrophotometry, gel electrophoresis, etc.).

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Able to work in a dynamic, multi-tasking and cross-functional environment
  • Team-oriented and proactive attitude; ability to communicate and interact effectively with management as well as lab personnel, sales personnel, and customers
  • Ability to execute experiments following procedures, methods and guidelines.
  • Excellent attention to detail including accurate and thorough record keeping
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks appropriately to address fluctuations in deadlines, excellent oral and written communication skills
