Description

BioFire Diagnostics, LLC. is looking for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Technician I/II.  This position will serve as a member of the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) team with emphasis on General Industry Occupational health and Safety. This position will report to the site HSE Manager. Primary responsibilities include assisting the site HSE Manager in implementing and promoting the site HSE programs, policies, and procedures with primary emphasis on occupational health and safety to establish the desired site incident/injury prevention culture.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the site HSE Supervisor, the HSE Technician I will:

  1. Implement and monitor the facilities health & safety programs, policies, and procedures
  2. May assist with monitoring environmental practices and permitting to ensure compliance
  3. Perform job safety analysis (JSA’s) and recommend corrective actions
  4. Conduct safety training including; new employee safety orientation, and specific occupational health and safety topic training to individuals and groups
  5. Inspect and maintain safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, safety showers/eye wash, first Aid kits and AED’s
  6. Assist with site Safety Committee activities and Building Emergency Response Teams (B.E.R.T.S) as required
  7. Assist with maintaining the facility wide, web based chemical inventory list and Safety Data Sheets
  8. Track, compile and report safety and training statistics
  9. Ensure department mgt. has all tools and information required to effectively implement safety programs and initiatives
  10. Conduct safety and environmental audits
  11. Other duties as assigned

Under general supervision of the HSE Supervisor, the HSE Technician II will:


  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
  2. Implement and monitor the facilities health & safety programs, policies, and procedures
  3. Collect and analyze safety incident and injury statistics in a spreadsheet format and report results to safety committee and other stakeholders
  4. Assist with monitoring environmental practices and permitting to ensure compliance
  5. Perform job safety analysis (JSA’s) and recommend corrective actions
  6. Conduct safety training including; new employee safety orientation, and specific occupational health and safety topic training to individuals and groups and compile statistics and reports relevant to safety training
  7. Inspect and maintain safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, safety showers/eye wash, first aid kits and AED’s
  8. Assist with site Safety Committee activities and Building Emergency Response Teams (B.E.R.T) as needed
  9. Assist with maintaining the company wide, web based chemical inventory list and Safety Data Sheet
  10. Conduct incident investigations including root cause analysis (RCA) and recommend corrective and preventive measures
  11. Work closely with the continuous improvement (CI) team to implement safety related CI improvements and initiatives
  12. Conduct safety and environmental audits
  13. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Training & Education:  Minimum of two years’ experience performing OSHA HSE duties in a manufacturing environment. Or equivalent education. Must have experience in training preparation and presentation to individuals and groups

Experience: 

Level I- Minimum of two years’ experience performing OSHA HSE duties in a manufacturing environment. Or equivalent education. Must have experience in training preparation and presentation to individuals and groups

Level II-Minimum of three years’ experience performing OSHA HSE duties in a manufacturing environment. Must have experience in training preparation and presentation to individuals and groups.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Level I-

  1. Oral Communication - The ability to effectively communicate with all site personnel and regulators. This includes ability to reinforce HSE concepts and policies in a manner that promotes learning and compliance.
  2. Written Communication – The ability to write reports, training materials, standard operating procedures and policies.
  3. Planning/Organizing - The ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and multi-tasks.
  4. Reasoning - The ability to collect and accurately assemble data in a logical manner. The ability to read, analyze and interpret job related information.     
  5. Dependability – Must have timely and accurate reporting, tracking and follow-up of assignments
  6. Computer Skills – Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, etc.
  7. Timely completion and follow-up of assigned tasks and accurate collection and tracking of required data is essential.

Level II

  7. The incumbent will have advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations, standard safety procedures, and best safe work practices.
  8. Advanced knowledge and understanding of behavioral-based safety programs is a plus.
  9. Timely completion and follow-up of assigned tasks and accurate collection and tracking of required data is essential.

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 40 lbs., walk on even and uneven surfaces and stairs, have fine motor coordination, ability to pass a respirator fit test, and have ability to gown for cleanroom environments.
