Engineering Manager Industrialization and Process Development

Position Summary

Engineering Manager of Industrialization and Process Development directs, plans, and leads the activities for the industrialization engineering team and the process engineering development team in support of department objectives and in alignment with company vision, priorities, and strategies.  This position works with other department leaders on resourcing, planning, and priorities to ensure projects and deliverables are completed on time and with exceptional quality of work.   

This position ensures that the onboarding process, development, training, coaching, mentoring, and feedback is consistently being provided to the teams to ensure their continued growth and development.  Also, that all team members understand their role and interdependencies with both the engineering shared services team and other teams and departments.  It is essential that this role understands priorities and projects within the entire engineering department organization and can balance resources and priorities to meet timelines and deliver results on time.  This position is also responsible that all work and activities of the company are accomplished in accordance with the company’s quality system. 

In consultation with Director of Engineering – Shared services this individual provides guidance regarding resourcing (staffing, physical, and process) needs, capital equipment, space and process needs / improvements in regard to the needs of the industrialization and process development teams.  Consults on topics such as vision, strategy, culture, and objectives.  He/she works with project and program management to encourage team members to collaborate, coordinate, and interact across projects and departments.

Department objectives are achieved, in large measure, through the execution of engineering and department projects/ objectives.  This position works with Engineering Management to define, set, and monitor department goals and objectives specific to industrialization and process development teams.

• Makes recommendations on staffing levels
• Maintain job descriptions for direct reports

• Identifies and makes recommendations on equipment, space, etc. needs of direct reports
• Facilitates project interaction by assigning workspace, seating locations, etc. to team members

• Should be familiar with all department processes and all relevant company SOPs/WIDs and policies.
• Monitors adherence to established processes
• Identifies and consults on process improvements for the department

• Works with the Director of Engineering to create a group charter.
• Tracks, trends, and reports on key performance indicators relative to direct report performance
• Supports company and department strategy and defined by senior leadership.
• Performs all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
• Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Provide manufacturing engineering team coordination/resource allocation to maximize efficiencies and ensure all research, development, transfer to production, and sustaining engineering needs are met for manufacturing/testing processes and equipment.
• Interface with R&D Engineering Management to ensure process research and development needs are met for new instrumentation.
• Manage and train process engineering teams to follow BioFire’s design controls.
• Ensure that manufacturing equipment and processes meets the needs of production, and installed base reliability needs.
• Set and review goals and objectives for each employee in the dept every 6 months.
• Ensure engineering WIDs meet the needs of the process engineering team.
• Provide team leadership and training.
• Ensure dept processes help teams and projects to produce products that meet quality expectations and specifications
• Communicate progress and needs to department Director.
• Review and approve biweekly effort reporting for assigned team members.
• Ensure dept processes are set up and defined to assist the team to perform data collection, analysis and reporting from various manufacturing processes
• As needed, act as project manager by tracking and reporting on schedule, tasks, and deliverables for projects being run by the Process Engineering and Industrialization team

Training, Education, and Experience

• BS in Engineering and 5+ years of experience in related field, including performance consistent with said experience
  • Or in lieu of degree, 10 + years of experience in an engineering management role managing process engineers and industrialization engineers
• Experience in manufacturing is preferred
